Today, August 21st, UPI reports. Authorities in New Hampshire say a man died while hiking down Cannon Mountain.
The New Hampshire Department of Fish and Wildlife said in a Facebook post that emergency personnel located the body of a man at the base of a waterfall on Saturday. According to the man’s friends, he had fallen while trying to descend from the peak.
The trio took the tram to the mountaintop with the intention of touring the peak and returning via tram, but they changed their minds and decided to hike back down instead.
“Unfortunately, they weren’t following a hiking trail and instead began down what they thought was a ski trail,” the department said.
The group then attempted to descend a spot described as “rocky, wet, and steep with a waterfall,” where one of the hikers slipped and fell.
The hikers dialed 911, and emergency personnel made the trek to the man’s body’s GPS coordinates.
Ross Funeral Home of Manchester, New Hampshire, was responsible for his final transportation, the police report said, and he was laid to rest in Littleton.
