In fantasy football leagues, quarterback is both the deepest and highest scoring position. When there are so many potential starting quarterbacks and you don’t want to overdraft anyone, it’s difficult to come up with a solid draft strategy for the position. You shouldn’t pay too much for Josh Allen or anyone else, but in auction leagues where budgets and nomination dates for players can fluctuate wildly, it’s easier to mine the “cheap” starter tier. Your cheat sheet must contain an accurate set of estimated QB monetary values in order to allow you to make an informed decision in advance.

If you’re looking for a good example, FantasyPros has Lamar Jackson priced reasonably at $18 ($200 budget leagues) despite the fact that he is still considered a top-10, if not top-5, fantasy option. Surprisingly, Jackson’s projected salary is identical to that of Jalen Hurts, who is also ranked in our fantasy quarterback second tier. In addition to Jackson and Hurts, fantasy owners can save money by selecting Kyler Murray ($14) or Dak Prescott ($15).

It’s possible that the market value of some of these quarterbacks will exceed expectations, while the market value of others will fall short. When they are nominated and whether or not other owners in your auction want them are both important factors. However, their price ranges provide a rough estimate of what you can expect to spend if you’re not willing to splurge on a top-tier quarterback like Allen, Justin Herbert, or Patrick Mahomes.

QBs, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, defensive backs, kickers, top 200, superflex, and defensive backs and kickers are all ranked in the 2022 standard rankings.

Still, “boring” pocket passers like Aaron Rodgers ($11), Matthew Stafford ($10), and Russell Wilson ($9) offer better value. Wilson has a strong supporting cast in Denver, with a talented group of wideouts and a slew of capable runners in the backfield. If he can maintain the same level of health as last season, he should be able to contribute to fantasy teams once again for the Seahawks. He scored 17.34 points in fantasy leagues per game in 2017. When you choose one of these passers, you can save money without sacrificing quality at quarterback.

Also, rookie quarterbacks like Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, and Trey Lance will be looking to improve upon their rookie campaigns. As the full-time starter in San Francisco this season, Lance has the most opportunity and upside of the bunch. He’s valued at $7, which is about as low as you want to go for your starter. However, with the opportunity to work with new head coach Doug Pederson, Lawrence still has a shot at being the team’s MVP. His low price tag of only $1 makes him an excellent low-risk, high-reward insurance policy. When considering Fields’ ($1) rushing potential, he is in a similar position.

PROJECTED 2022 RANKINGS, TIES, AND DRAFT STRATEGY: Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Wide Receivers, Tight Ends, and Defensive Backs

Regardless of which QB you target, the key is not overpaying. The highest-priced quarterback, even Allen, can be worth it if you pay the right price. However, after a certain point, the value of even the most productive quarterback drops to the point where he is no longer worth the opportunity (and actual) cost. Spending down at quarterback will make putting together a winning team much simpler, but if you keep an eye out for deals and are ready to pounce when someone is about to sell too cheaply, you should be fine no matter what position you draft.
