In Los Angeles Following a car accident last week that left actor Anne Heche seriously hurt and in a coma, authorities announced Thursday that she had narcotics in her system and was being looked into for perhaps driving while intoxicated.

After the incident on August 5 that caused fires to extend inside a residence in the Los Angeles suburb of Mar Vista, Heche, 53, was taken to the hospital in severe condition, according to officials.

According to a statement from the LAPD, the blood draw “indicated the presence of narcotics in preliminary testing.” “The case is being looked into as a drunk driving traffic accident. “

According to authorities, the investigation is a felony “due to the female in the residence” who was “engulfed in flames.” Lynne Mishele, the resident of the house, has been named.

Shawn Holley, the woman’s attorney, said in a statement: “Ms. Mishele is distraught by what occurred to her on Friday—not just because she and her cats nearly lost their lives, but also because everything of her property—including items of significant sentimental value—was destroyed.

At the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles on Thursday, Heche was still unconscious and being ventilated while being surrounded by friends and relatives. A spokeswoman for Heche stated that tests had been completed and that medical professionals were determining if certain surgeries could be performed to help Heche.

Homer Laffoon, her 20-year-old son, has been named as the actor’s next of kin, the spokesman continued.

Heche earned notoriety in movies including “Donnie Brasco,” “Volcano,” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer” after originally catching people’s eye on the soap opera “Another World.” She has also been in TV shows like “Men in Trees” and “Chicago P.D.”

Heche claims that despite being a high-profile, same-sex relationship in the 1990s, her more than three-year relationship with comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres hurt her film career.

Her most recent appearance was in “All Rise,” a CBS legal drama.

Additionally, she co-hosts the “Better Together” podcast with public relations specialist Heather Duffy, where they “celebrate friendship and believe that we can create more joy in the world by sharing our tales, missteps, and victories.”
