Putin’s outspoken critic, a Russian billionaire
Few prominent Russians have spoken out against the conflict with Ukraine.
One of the rare exceptions is Boris Mints, a 64-year-old billionaire who got rich through an investment firm.
Mr. Mints compared President Putin’s actions to Hitler’s invasion of Poland in 1939 in an email interview with the BBC, calling Putin’s actions “vile.”
He claimed that other prominent Russians who have remained silent do so out of fear, and that anyone who criticizes Putin has good reason to fear for their personal safety.
Ukraine will soon have a McDonald’s again.
McDonald’s plans to reopen its restaurants in Ukraine, which it says will help bring a sense of “normalcy” back to the country.
Soon after the invasion in February, the fast food chain closed all of its locations.
The company says its 10,000 employees are eager to see stores reopen once it is safe to do so, so it has continued to pay them.
Over the course of the next few months, businesses in Kyiv and western Ukraine will gradually reopen in areas deemed secure.
