You could spend months, if not years, hiking all of the trails in the Cherokee National Forest and still not see it all. There is a majestic mountain range in East Tennessee that can be seen from just about anywhere. Hiking to spectacular waterfalls and other hidden treasures can be found deep in the forest. Margarette Falls in Greenville, Tennessee, is a waterfall that calls to all tourists. There is nothing more satisfying than the thrill of reaching a stunning waterfall like this one.
Cherokee trails cover a huge area.
The signs are excellent, so getting lost shouldn’t be too much of a problem. The 2.4-mile round-trip hike to Margarette Falls features a moderate (623-foot) elevation gain. The first half mile of the trail is on a flat, gravel path.
Once you get to the end of the road, you’ll see a sign for the trailhead on your right.
When the road splits in two, stay to the right. Follow the signs; the path is fairly well-worn beyond this point, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding your way.
From here on out, the trail narrows and you gain most of your elevation.
This forest is full of life and color. Keep an eye out for the spots where the forest seems especially enchanted due to the presence of a large number of free-flying butterflies. You’ll also follow the West Fork of Dry Creek, which features the soothing sound of water trickling over rocks as you go. Small waterfalls form along the route as the water flows over debris like fallen trees and rocks.
Up until the falls, the tail is serene and beautiful.
After you get across a bridge, the trail will start to get steep again. The trail’s adventure lies in the fact that you’ll have to ascend stone stairs, cross a stream, and scale a few rocks.
You will be absolutely awed by Margarette Falls.
Get some food, find a good vantage point, and enjoy the sight of the 60-foot waterfall tumbling over the rocky cliffside. The beauty of this waterfall cannot be overstated. If you’re in the mood for some exploration, head up the left side of the falls and along the steep path until you reach a small cave.
Put your tired feet in the refreshing pool of water to relax at the end of your journey.
Margarette Falls is a stunning waterfall that must be admired for as long as possible. Take your time and savor the benefits of your travels; this is a truly remarkable and enchanted destination.
