Congresspeople gathered on Thursday to pay their respects to the late Rep. Jackie Walorski, R-Ind., at the Granger Community Church in Granger, Indiana.

Loved by people in both parties, the Republican lawmaker tragically perished in an automobile accident on August 3 in Elkhart County, Indiana, when another vehicle collided head-on with her SUV.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., the House Minority Leader, gave emotional praise to Walorski for his character.

“Her life was truly one of elegance. She spoke bluntly. All of her coworkers had the utmost respect for her “stated McCarthy.

“For today, Jackie was prepared. Jackie is currently somewhere else, “said he.

Walorski “spent every day living out her faith but also bringing this spirit with her,” according to House Republican Whip Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La.

Rep. Ann Wagner, R-Mo., spoke of Walorski as a friend while crying. Both of them began their congressional careers in 2013 and were sworn in on the same day. They both resided in the same apartment complex.

Wagner recalled instances when the two women and others would assemble at Wagner’s apartment. “We were a little sorority of only 19 Republican women… and we needed to remain together,” Wagner said.

We have truly lost one of the greatest of us, Wagner remarked, fighting back tears as he addressed his friends and colleagues in Congress.
