‘One more chance to get it right’

HBO has announced that the second season of The Rehearsal, a docu-comedy series created and starring Nathan Fielder, will air in 2019. The announcement arrived on the eve of the show’s sixth episode and the season one finale on Friday night. The Season 2 tagline promises, “One more chance to get it right,” but no premiere date has been given.

The Rehearsal is, ostensibly, a mockumentary series meant to help regular people deal with tense situations by allowing them to practice doing so in advance. While the show’s premise is relatively straightforward, the show’s budget and attention to detail can make the scale of each rehearsal feel overwhelming, and the show itself becomes more self-aware as the series progresses.

“Nathan has sparked such a lively conversation with The Rehearsal,” said HBO’s executive vice president of programming, Amy Gravitt. What makes this boundary-pushing show from a truly singular talent so enjoyable is that we have no idea where it will take us in season 2.
