pitcher dodged a terrible situation.
One night after a suspected drunk driver struck his car during a traffic check on Interstate 5 in California, Padres pitcher Blake Snell made his scheduled start against the Nationals on Friday night.
The California Highway Patrol halted Snell’s car on Thursday night after Padres pitcher was allegedly pulled over for a traffic infraction. Snell’s vehicle was hit while it was stopped. Snell’s car’s driver was detained for driving under the influence.
Snell was given the all-clear to pitch on Friday night after being examined by the Padres medical staff.
Prior to Friday’s game, Padres manager Bob Melvin spoke with the media about the incident.
He is fine physically, according to Melvin.
But that might make you feel a little uneasy. But today, our men examined him, and we spoke with him. He’s prepared to pitch, so I believe we were fortunate.
