Polestar 6 Electric Roadster Confirmed For 2026 Launch

Polestar wants its EV convertible to hit 62 mph in 3.2 seconds.

The target for Polestar’s electric convertible’s acceleration is 3.2 seconds at 62 mph.

Polestar has confirmed the production version of the O 2 convertible concept car. Polestar announced the model in March with a release date of 2026 and is now accepting online reservations for production slots. There are still four years until the release of the Polestar 6, but the company is eager to share some details now.

The open-top model will be supported by the company’s proprietary aluminum platform and the company’s 800-volt EV architecture. The Polestar 5 will be underpinned by this architecture, with 884 hp (650 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque from its dual-motor powertrain. The company’s goal for the convertible is for it to reach 155 miles per hour (250 kilometers per hour) in top speed and a 0-62 mph time of 3.2 seconds.

There will be 500 numbered “LA Concept” edition 6s available from Polestar when it debuts in four years. You can expect these to have the same Sky blue paint job, white leather interior, and special 21-inch wheels as the concept car.

Earlier this summer, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath voiced interest in mass producing the concept but expressed doubts about how feasible the endeavor would be. As the transition from concept to production vehicle takes place over the next few years, the automaker will have plenty of time to work out the kinks. It’s safe to assume that if the final product is anything like previous Polestar concepts, it will look just as beautiful. On the other hand, the cinematic drone is probably not going to be included in the final product.

Ingenlath, who made the announcement, said, “I am so excited to make it a reality” after the automaker received a “overwhelming consumer and press response” for the concept.

Polestar is hard at work on a number of new models that will appear on store shelves in the coming years. In October, Polestar will release the Polestar 3, an electric SUV, with the Polestar 4 to follow in 2023. A four-door performance GT, the Polestar 5 won’t be available until 2024. After the release of the Polestar 5, consumers will have to wait another two years for the Polestar 6. In honor of the production announcement, Polestar will showcase the O 2 concept at Monterey Car Week.
