In her few comments on the role, Bakalova has confirmed key details for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The first piece of news is that it’s official: Cosmo will be a motion capture character in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, joining the likes of Groot, Rocket, and Howard the Duck in that category. The interview does confirm, however, that in contrast to Rocket and Groot, Bakalova actually appeared on set in mo-cap to perform the role, as opposed to merely dubbing lines in post-production like Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. Since Cosmo is a telepathic character who can exchange thoughts without using words, it stands to reason that Bakalova will also be providing voice work for other characters.

Bakalova’s enthusiasm for the film as a fan of the MCU and of cinema in general is the most illuminating part of the interview. Bakalova’s work as Cosmo no doubt factors heavily into the post-production units, and it’s been said that watching a Gunn production is a joyous experience. The fact that Bakalova speaks so fondly of a production and a franchise role conveys how much fun she had playing the part, despite the fact that she has done extremely harrowing tasks in previous films, especially in Borat 2. An account like Bakalova’s can’t help but increase anticipation for the much-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 even though it has less than a year to go until its release.
