The Black Panther 2 Merch Offers First Look at Ironheart’s Final Armor

Wakanda Forever: New figures show what is presumably the final version of Riri Williams/Ironheart’s armor.

The final design of Ironheart’s armor can be seen for the first time on official Black Panther: Wakanda Forever merchandise.

The finalized version of Riri Williams/armor Ironheart’s will make its Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the upcoming sequel, and a set of figures for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever currently sold at Target and shared on Twitter gave fans their first look at it. Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Namor the Sub-Mariner action figures are also included (Tenoch Huerta).

Images of Ironheart’s armor have surfaced online before, though those earlier images only appear to depict the “Mark 1” version of the hero’s suit. The version of the suit that Dominique Thorne’s character appears to be constructing in the official Wakanda Forever teaser trailer. A recent set photo showed Thorne actually dressed as Ironheart, whereas the one before that was an illustration.

Thorne will make her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in the upcoming sequel as Riri Williams/Ironheart, before starring in her own Marvel-themed series on Disney+. In March, the actor revealed that she was done shooting for Wakanda Forever. “And that’s a picture wrap on Riri Williams,” Thorne concluded on her Instagram story. “God is wonderful. Please come back in November.”

Marvel’s Cinematic Universe Finally Introduces Ironheart

The filming of Wakanda Forever began in Atlanta, GA on June 29, 2021, but has been put on hold multiple times since then due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The film is a continuation of the Black Panther franchise begun in 2018 and starring the late Chadwick Boseman as King T’Challa/Black Panther. After Boseman’s untimely demise in 2020, the plot of Wakanda Forever underwent significant revision. After it was confirmed in August that Thorne would play Riri Williams in the sequel, it was announced that she would also star in her own Disney+ series called Ironheart, with Chinaka Hodge at the helm as showrunner.

In August of 2021, Marvel Studios President and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige confirmed that filming had begun on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and that audiences would first meet Riri Williams in Black Panther 2. She apparently just started filming this week for her upcoming Ironheart series. Fans speculated that Riri would make her MCU debut in Wakanda Forever because of rumors that filming would take place at MIT, where she is a student in the comics.

Riri Williams was first introduced in Marvel Comics in 2016’s Invincible Iron Man #7, and she was created by Brian Michael Bendis, Mike Deodato, Eve Ewing, and Kevin Libranda. Riri, a 15-year-old MIT student and genius, is able to deconstruct Tony Stark’s technology to build her own suit of armor and assume the identity of Ironheart. Marvel Studios confirmed Ironheart in December 2021, and while the premiere date for the first season of six episodes has not been set, it will air on Disney+.

Wakanda Forever, the sequel to Black Panther, will be released on November 11, 2022.
