Tom Brady, the standout quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will be absent from the team until after a preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on August 20, according to head coach Todd Bowles, who made the announcement on Thursday.

Brady’s absence from the team’s joint practice with the Miami Dolphins was excused, and Bowles said that Brady’s vacation time had been planned weeks prior.

In a press conference, Bowles stated, “This is something we discussed before training camp even started. “We gave him this time because he wanted to bond with the team throughout the two weeks of training camp even though he wouldn’t be playing in the first two games. We believe him. We discussed it. It was planned well in advance of training camp, and he won’t arrive until after Tennessee.”

Brady will start for Tampa Bay in the regular season opener on September 11 against the Dallas Cowboys, according to Bowles, who also expressed a “very high amount of confidence” in that outcome.

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht stated that Brady is “focused as ever, he’ll come back even more focused and it’s the least of our concerns” in an interview with 95.3 WDAE.

Brady, 45, has only sometimes shown up for Buccaneers practices the past week. He had a veteran day on August 3, which was his birthday. He had a valid absence two days later. Brady is beginning his third season with the team, and the Buccaneers have maintained consistent continuity on offense. He participated in practices on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for the Buccaneers, the last of which was the first joint session with the Dolphins.

Regarding the team’s offensive efforts, Bowles remarked, “I don’t think it stops it at all. “We’ve got a procedure in place. We want to see some males. We get to see the receivers and backup quarterbacks competing to make the club.”

Brady had one of his most productive seasons in 2021 when he threw for a league-leading and career-high 5,316 yards. He also had the most passing attempts (485), completions (485), and touchdowns (43) in the league (719). The Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers won the AP Most Valuable Player title, with him coming in second place in the voting.

Brady has experienced a busy offseason. A little over a month after announcing his NFL retirement in February, he changed his mind and said he would be playing another 23 seasons. Then, on August 2, the NFL discovered that, as part of a tampering plot, the Dolphins had improper contact with Brady in 2019 and 2022 while he was still under contract with the Patriots and, respectively, the Buccaneers. Miami lost their draft picks as a result, and owner Stephen Ross was punished by the league with a suspension and fine.
