Payton and Brady. Here is the press release’s direct citation: During and after the 2021 season, when Brady was still under contract with the Buccaneers, the Dolphins illegally communicated with him and his agent. Discussions about Mr. Brady becoming a limited partner in the Dolphins and possibly serving as a football executive (and at times, playing for the Dolphins) began no later than the beginning of December 2021. It’s possible that Tua isn’t completely ignorant of the truth, and that he’s using alternative facts as a shield. Maybe he’s trying to downplay the significance of the Dolphins’ pursuit of Brady during and after the 2021 season, when they had already given up on signing Deshaun Watson.

Despite the fact that Brady’s arrival isn’t imminent (in fact, it may now never happen at all), the situation lends credence to what receiver Tyreek Hill said earlier this summer. After being a first-round draft pick, Hill said on his podcast, “You know, in the NFL they only give you like two or three years to be a successful quarterback.” It’s time to kick rocks, man, if you haven’t made it after those years. Essentially, Tua will be inserted there. This is his last year to make an impression and prove himself, man.

A.D. Watson, Deshaun. Brady, Tom. This is Lamar Jackson. Whoever. If the current starting quarterback doesn’t produce results by the end of the 2022 season, Tua Tagovailoa won’t be the Dolphins’ starting quarterback in 2023.
