WHERE: ROME (Associated Press) — After breaking the tibia in his right leg on Sunday, Georginio Wijnaldum, a midfielder for the Netherlands, may not be able to play in the World Cup.

A statement from Wijnaldum’s Serie A club Roma said, “the player will undergo further assessments in the coming days” after the injury was sustained during training.

Wijnaldum, who is 31 years old, is currently on loan at Roma from Paris Saint-Germain. He used to be a player for Liverpool.

Wijnaldum has played for the Netherlands on more than 80 occasions.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to begin on November 20 and end on December 18 in Qatar.
